Ox Engineering is looking for a reliable and hardworking Trades Assistant – Mechanical & Fabrication to join our manufacturing team in Canning Vale, WA.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work and wants to develop their skills in a busy engineering, mechanical and fabrication environment. You’ll work alongside experienced Boilermakers and Mechanical Fitters, gaining valuable exposure to a broad range of workshop and manufacturing activities.
As a Trades Assistant, you will provide practical support to our tradespeople and workshop team across mechanical, fabrication, assembly and general manufacturing activities.
The successful applicant will be hands-on, safety-focused and able to undertake tasks with minimal supervision once instructed.
- Assist Boilermakers and Mechanical Fitters as required.
- Assist with the assembly and fitting of mechanical components under the guidance of experienced tradespeople.
- Prepare, handle and move steel, materials and equipment.
- Prepare and work from steel cutting lists.
- Use hand and power tools, including grinders, drills and other workshop equipment.
- Carry out cutting and grinding of steel.
- Assist with fabrication, assembly, fitting and general workshop activities.
- Support the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment as required.
- Follow instructions, technical drawings and work requirements to complete tasks accurately.
- Assist with the safe operation and use of workshop equipment.
- Undertake and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision and in accordance with health and safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, tidy and organised worksite.
- Ensure associated equipment and work areas are clean, safe and ready for use.
- Follow WHS procedures, company policies and safe work practices.
- Support the team to meet production deadlines and quality standards.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to build mechanical, fabrication and workshop skills.
- Perform other reasonable duties as required.

The following qualifications, tickets and experience will be highly regarded:

HRWL Forklift Licence – required.
- HR Driver’s Licence – desirable but not essential.
- Experience or qualification to safely operate an overhead crane.
- Previous experience working around mechanical, fabrication or manufacturing environments.
- Basic understanding of mechanical principles and practices.
- Completion of secondary education or equivalent.
