About the role
The Assistant Project Officer undertakes a range of project research, policy analysis, reporting, implementation and administrative activities relating to the development of integrated, evidence-based policy reform aligned to the Department’s strategic priorities, including Our Plan for NSW Public Education, the NSW Skills Plan and teacher workload reduction. The role supports the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of projects and policies aligned with these strategic initiatives, which the Department can rely on for effective decision making to achieve specified NSW Government objectives.
Key accountabilities
- Provide project and administrative support to help deliver key priorities on time and within scope.
- Prepare project documents, reports and briefing material to support planning and informed decision-making.
- Gather and review information to support project work, policy advice and business outcomes.
- Liaise with stakeholders, arrange meetings and provide updates on project progress and key activities.
- Coordinate meeting logistics, prepare agendas and minutes, and provide day-to-day support to the Director and team.

About you
- Experience providing project support while managing competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
- Ability to conduct research, gather information and prepare clear, accurate reports and briefing material.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Knowledge of contemporary project management practices and the ability to apply them to support successful project outcomes.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
- Demonstrated experience in delivering quality project support.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, Excel and Power Point.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education
