The Role
Under direction, the Workshop Carpenter performs carpentry and joinery work, particularly with regard to exhibition construction, requiring a high standard of technical competence and finish. The work involves: maintenance of, and repairs to the Memorial, its buildings and sundry workshop tasks as required.
The duties include day to day Workshop operations ensuring daily, weekly and infrequent tasks are met; assisting in the provision of trade services and liaison with various stakeholders on a broad range of carpentry and joinery services including maintenance and repairs via the Building and Exhibition Maintenance and Minor New Works systems.
This position will initially be filled for 6 months, with the possibility for extension and/or permanency.
Core Responsibilities

Under general direction, perform a range of moderate complex carpentry and joinery tasks which contribute to the work of the team ensuring that:
- Quantity and quality of work is maintained to high standards;

Output targets are met; and

Safety procedures are followed and WHS policies are adhered to;

Compiling cutting lists and material quantities derived from complex architectural plans for workshop associated projects;
- Ability to work autonomously in remote locations with little or no contact with immediate supervisor or manager;

Under general direction, liaise with clients and contractors, prepare associated reports and recommendations;

Undertake other moderately complex carpentry and trade duties, including maintenance and repairs to the Memorial’s buildings and grounds, and sundry tasks particularly with regard to exhibition construction;

Prepare the Memorial for commemoration events and attend major ceremonial functions including ANZAC Day coordination and site management.

Maintain relevant computer data bases associated with the workflows of the workshop;

Ability to apply safe manual handling techniques to a wide range of materials and equipment and abide by and further the principles and practices of Work, Health and Safety as outlined in the WHS Act, taking reasonable care for their own health and safety and ensuring that their acts or omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of other persons.

This role may be required to undertake First Aid duties (training provided if required).

Mandatory Requirements
- Carpentry or cabinet making trade qualifications in the building industry are mandatory.
