THE ROLE
the General Counsel ensures the delivery of legal services across the Commission's and Disability Worker Registration Board of Victoria's (the Board's) regulatory and operational work under the Disability Service Safeguards Act 2018 (Vic) (the Act).
Reporting to the Director Scheme Performance and working closely with the Commissioner, the Director Regulatory Operations and the Commission's leadership team, the General Counsel ensures the delivery of legal services across the Commission's and Disability Worker Registration Board of Victoria's (the Board's) regulatory and operational matters under the Disability Service Safeguards Act 2018 (Vic) (the Act), which underpin all aspects of the Disability Worker Regulation Scheme (the Scheme).
This includes providing expert and timely advice on highly complex and sensitive legal matters, and support to the Commission in areas such as: freedom of information, privacy, complaints, corporate and regulatory delegations, and associated policies and procedures.
The General Counsel is responsible for managing and leading a small team of specialists, including mentoring, supervising and facilitating their learning and development and managing their performance to achieve effective results and drive change as well as identifying opportunities for improvement
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

Provide leadership and guidance in a broad range of legal matters to senior stakeholders by developing briefs on highly complex issues, including developing strategies for management of complex legal proceedings.

Provide expert legal advice on policy and commercial matters relating to designated contracts including review, preparation or outsourcing of commercial and contractual terms and conditions for contracts, subcontracts and other instruments.

Provide expert legal advice and guidance on regulatory activities, including complaints, notifications, investigations and worker registration.
