Vitruvium | Mid–Senior | On-site, Warwick QLD | On-Site
Vitruvium produces structural steel detailing for fabricators who require shop-floor-ready documentation. Project types include industrial structures, commercial buildings, institutional work, custom staircases, platforms, and walkways. The standard is fabrication-ready accuracy, not technical correctness alone.
The Role
The detailer develops engineer's drawings into fabrication-ready models and drawing packages. Engineer's documentation is often incomplete in detail, and the role requires judgement to make connection design decisions within the engineer's structural intent, coordinate with fabricators about their preferences and capabilities, and engage the engineer where clarification or challenge is warranted.
Management of junior drafter and offshore detailing output is central to the role. The position is responsible for the upstream work - modelling, connection design, coordination - that allows junior/offshore detailers to produce drawings efficiently. This division of labour is fundamental to how our work and economics are structured. The role requires confident review of their output, clear written direction, and quality control before drawings reach the client.
Requirements
- Minimum five years of structural steel detailing experience across projects of meaningful complexity, including connection design beyond catalogue selection.
- Strong Tekla proficiency, including components, custom components, and automated drawing production.
- Capability to interpret engineer's documentation with judgement, distinguishing between specifications that are fixed and those that permit or require detailer input.
- Manufacturing literacy: practical understanding of fabrication processes, cost drivers, and shop floor constraints.
- Demonstrated experience directing offshore or remote detailing staff.
Who This Role Is Not For
The role is unsuitable for detailers who require complete specifications and prefer not to exercise judgement. It is also unsuitable for capable detailers who do not want to take on team management - that responsibility is integral to the role. Candidates with strongly fixed methods who are not open to adopting Vitruvium's systems will find integration difficult.
