Join the newly established Mother & Baby Unit (MBU) at Redbank House on the Westmead Hospital campus—a specialist inpatient service providing 24/7 care for parents experiencing significant perinatal mental health challenges. Designed to keep parents and babies together during treatment, the MBU delivers compassionate, evidence-based care that promotes secure attachment, recovery and positive family outcomes.
Working within Western Sydney Local Health District's renowned Mental Health Service, you'll collaborate with experienced multidisciplinary clinicians in a purpose-built therapeutic environment where innovation, inclusion and clinical excellence are at the heart of everything we do.

What you'll be doing
As the Senior Social Worker, you will play a pivotal role in supporting women experiencing severe mental illness during late pregnancy and the first 12 months following birth. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you'll provide advanced psychosocial assessment, therapeutic intervention and care coordination to improve outcomes for parents, infants and their families.
Deliver comprehensive psychosocial assessments, therapeutic interventions and family-centred care planning
Provide specialist clinical advice, advocacy and referrals across mental health and community support services
Facilitate individual and group-based therapeutic interventions that promote recovery and parent-infant attachment
Lead quality improvement initiatives, supervise junior staff and contribute to education and evidence-based practice
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, families and external agencies to deliver coordinated, culturally responsive care

Essential Requirements:
Qualification: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work
Registration: Eligibility for full membership of AASW
Selection Criteria:
Must hold a degree in social work and eligibility for full membership of AASW with experience at Level 2 or higher, with demonstrated specialised knowledge and experience with perinatal mental health.
Demonstrated clinical knowledge, skills and clinical experience delivering targeted psychological therapies and psychosocial interventions in perinatal mental health.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills working with women and families with complex care needs including knowledge of the impact of mental health problems and mental illness in parenting, parent-infant relationship, and infant development.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills in recognising and appropriately managing child protection concerns and demonstrated knowledge and skills working with NSW MHA (200 and the MHCIFP Act (202.
Experience and demonstrated ability in building and maintaining professional and therapeutic relationships through the application of written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Demonstrated ability to apply and share expert knowledge with colleagues and other health professionals to enhance service delivery as well as demonstrated experience and ability working in a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated experience and ability to identify opportunities and lead the planning, implementation and evaluation of service delivery innovation incorporating continuous improvement, evidence-based practice and research.
Demonstrated high level organisational, prioritisation and time management skills in an environment of competing clinical and administrative demands. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including collaborative stakeholder consultation.and willingness to use same for work purposes.
