The Quality & Test Manager is accountable for the leadership and performance of the Quality Department and Test Laboratory within the Power Transformer Business unit.
This role is responsible for ensuring transformers are tested in accordance with the Master Production Plan, applicable technical standards and customer specifications, while maintaining an effective Quality Management System and laboratory operations that comply with ISO/IEC 17025 and other applicable standards.
The Quality & Test Manager is accountable for the leadership and performance of the Quality Department and Test Laboratory within the Power Transformer Business unit.
This role is responsible for ensuring transformers are tested in accordance with the Master Production Plan, applicable technical standards and customer specifications, while maintaining an effective Quality Management System and laboratory operations that comply with ISO/IEC 17025 and other applicable standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the Quality Department and Test Laboratory to achieve business, customer, quality and compliance objectives.
- Ensuring testing activities are completed in accordance with customer requirements, technical standards, laboratory procedures and the production schedule.
- Continually improving the Integrated Management System (IMS) employed within the Business Unit to conform with requirements of applicable standards and achieve the targeted quality objective.
- Manages the internal audit programme, external audits and management review processes to ensure the management systems remain effective and compliant. Ensures all products and services have a suitable inspection and test plan in place.
- Acts as the focal point for Quality and Testing within the Business Unit to promote a Customer Focus, maintain alignment, achieve Quality Objectives, to fulfill the needs and expectations of interested parties.
- Leads test failure investigations, quality investigations, non-conformance reporting and corrective actions to ensure issues are resolved effectively and recurrence is prevented.
- Monitoring and maintaining laboratory compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, including laboratory systems, facilities, environmental conditions, technical records, equipment calibration, verification and fitness for purpose.
- Ensuring laboratory and quality personnel comply with all relevant procedures, technical requirements, impartiality, confidentiality and professional conduct expectations.
- Provide the technical expertise to the Business in to standards, testing, quality requirements, problem solving, root cause analysis and quality resolution.
- Supporting supplier and contractor quality assurance, evaluations and approvals in accordance with business requirements.
- Ensuring quality records, test records and reports are accurate, controlled, archived and readily retrievable.
- Training, coaching and developing employees to meet the minimum requirements of the Quality Management System, laboratory accreditation and operational needs.
- Monitoring departmental budgets, non-conformance costs, testing performance and improvement initiatives.
- Ensuring the safe operation of the department, including hazard reporting, workplace inspections, housekeeping standards, risk assessments and environmental compliance.
- Ensuring compliance with the Company’s Integrated Management System, policies, procedures, legal obligations and core values.
- Supporting continuous improvement through identification of value-add opportunities, waste reduction and improved process effectiveness.
Essential skills
· Degree in Electrical Engineering
· Qualification in Quality Management, Auditing or a related discipline.
· Demonstrated experience in transformer testing and/or quality management within a manufacturing environment.
· Strong knowledge of applicable Australian and International technical standards.
· Working knowledge of AS4801, ISO9001, ISO14001 (or other Standards as required)
· Experience in root cause analysis, corrective actions and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma or similar).
· Strong understanding of quality assurance, auditing, inspection and test processes.
Pay: $150,000.00 – $180,000.00 per year
