Primary objective
Support the Paediatric service to provide care to complex Adolescent patients attending Top End Health Services,
predominantly through ambulatory care with some inpatient work at Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals (RDPH).
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Weekly adolescent medical clinic where the registrar will see adolescents for a range of complex medical and psychosocial
presentations, including support for high risk youth recently discharged from RDPH.
2. Outpatient services for adolescents in the child protection and youth justice systems.
3. Adolescent Diabetes clinics.
4. Twice weekly case conference with the inpatient Adolescent clinical nurse consultant.
5. Support paediatric involvement in multi-agency community services that support at-risk youth.
6. Participate in the provision of specialist paediatric outreach services to Regional Hospitals and remote communities as
required, through both telehealth and in-person visits.
7. Participate in continuous medical education, professional development, peer review, research, teaching, quality
improvement activities and clinical audits as appropriate.
8. Work with medical, mental health, Allied health, and relevant community groups to support the ongoing development of
Adolescent services in the Northern Territory.
9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken, in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
10.Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration.
2. Advanced paediatric trainee (completed Royal Australian College Physicians exams) or provisional advanced trainee.
3. Demonstrated interest in and commitment to improving the health of adolescents and young people.
4. Demonstrated interest in Indigenous health.
5. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively as a team member in a
cross-cultural work environment.
6. Evidence of commitment to continuing education, teaching, research and quality assurance activities.
Desirable
1. Experience working in adolescent health or child protection.
2. Experience working in the Northern Territory.
