Job Description
Objective
Our objective is to recruit high-quality educators who are committed to educating, caring for and positively influencing the children attending The Montessori Preschool & LDC of Sydney.
We seek individuals who have a genuine interest in children and are committed to working collaboratively with children, families and colleagues. Educators are expected to prioritise the safety, wellbeing, rights and protection of children, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, and contribute to a safe, respectful, inclusive and child-safe environment.
Key Accountabilities
Children
- Prioritise the safety, wellbeing and protection of every child at all times through active supervision, appropriate interactions and risk awareness.
- Understand and fulfil responsibilities relating to child safety and protection, including identifying and appropriately responding to concerns, disclosures or signs that a child may be at risk of harm or abuse.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and model respectful, safe and professional behaviour when interacting with children.
- Ensure children are treated with dignity, respect and fairness, and that their views, feelings and voices are valued.
- Build secure, trusting and responsive relationships with children while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Provide a nurturing, inclusive and supportive environment where children feel safe, respected and able to seek help.
- Ensure children are educated and cared for to a high standard in accordance with the National Quality Framework (NQF), National Quality Standard (NQS) and Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
- Provide meaningful interactions that support children's learning, development, independence and wellbeing.
- Implement and maintain room routines and educational programs, including small-group experiences.
- Embed Montessori principles and practices within the daily program and culture of the centre.
- Contribute to documentation and continuous improvement, including Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) requirements.
- Follow all child protection, child safety, supervision, incident, emergency and risk-management procedures.

- Speak up and report concerns about children's safety or wellbeing in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures.

- Welcome families and maintain positive communication during daily arrivals and departures.
- Support open communication with families about children's learning, development, wellbeing and safety, while maintaining children's privacy and confidentiality.
- Encourage families to provide feedback and contribute to the service's approach to child safety.

Centre
- Maintain safe, clean, welcoming and well-organised learning environments.
- Identify and report hazards and potential risks and take reasonable precautions to protect children from harm.
- Attend room and staff meetings as required.
- Participate in required child safety, child protection, emergency and professional development training.
- Attend in-house Montessori training.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care from a recognised Registered Training Organisation, as applicable to the position.
- Current and verified Working with Children Check (WWCC).
- Current First Aid, CPR, Asthma and Anaphylaxis qualifications, as required.
- Completion of required child safety and child protection training.
- Understanding of the NSW Child Safe Standards and a commitment to child-safe practice.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety, wellbeing, rights and protection of children.
- Genuine enthusiasm for early childhood education and care.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
- Desirable: Montessori qualification from a recognised Montessori training institution.
- Desirable: Minimum two years' experience in an early childhood setting.
- Desirable: Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, regulations and the National Quality Framework.

Other Responsibilities
- Contribute to a positive, respectful and child-safe workplace culture.
- Demonstrate behaviours consistent with the MPoS Code of Conduct at all times.
- Follow all child safety, child protection, WHS and emergency procedures.
- Participate in emergency drills and required training, including evacuation procedures.
- Complete mandatory child safety and child protection training and maintain required qualifications and clearances.
- Notify management of any changes to or expiry of required qualifications, clearances or training.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect children's and families' privacy.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, including Montessori training.
- Share ideas that promote high-quality education, care, inclusion and child safety.
- Attend meetings, training and professional development as required.
- Carry out other reasonable duties and participate in projects as required.
- Represent The Montessori Preschool & LDC of Sydney professionally and uphold its commitment to child safety at all times.
Pay: From $35.00 per hour
