About the Role
To plan and co-ordinate, execute and monitor equipment and labour resources to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the fleet. This position requires a person with a high level of management and interpersonal skills, with the ability and willingness to co-operate with peers. An exceptional knowledge of relevant road legislation and equipment is also essential for this role. It requires an alert, business-oriented person who can maximise opportunities through timely decision making, awareness of cost control, innovative thinking and preparedness to handle all tasks in a conscientious manner. The position carries a responsibility for all aspects of local and Linehaul operations that should be conducted in a safe, efficient manner with a high level of service
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Oversee the selection of appropriate equipment and load allocation to maximise use of equipment.
- In conjunction with Fleet Controllers (local and Linehaul) ensure full utilisation of vehicles and to the safe and secure methods of accomplishing loading in an efficient and effective manner.
- Ensure that all vehicles are promptly loaded or unloaded on arrival the depot.
- All designated vehicles to be loaded and despatched within agreed timeframes.
- Manage and review labour requirements in conjunction with Warehouse Manager to ensure appropriate coverage of daily and seasonal peaks with freight demands on all shifts.
- Ensure that the operational transport office team provide a high level of customer service.
- Update information as required and maintain all internal spreadsheets for weekly KPI analysis.
- Constantly review load and unload process to establish best practise for safety and efficiencies.
- In conjunction with Fleet Controller monitor pickup and deliveries ensuring customers and relevant personnel are promptly advised of inability to achieve planned requirements.
- Ensure clear and effective UHF communication is maintained. Address any issues with non-conforming UHF use and alert management.
- Liaise with site supervisors to ensure best use of the labour and equipment pool.
- Monitor and ensure all operators work within the legislated work hours (Standard or Basic Fatigue Management)
- Perform random spot checks to ensure that all company operators and contractors utilised have current licenses.
- Ensure that operators are vigilant checking load restraint on all freight handled - on receipt for unloading or despatch for loading (Operators are those people involved in the freight handling or pick up / delivery process: forklift drivers and drivers)
- Assist or as directed, conduct Prestart - Tool box meetings.
