How you will make an impact
The Compliance Lead plays a vital role in supporting CatholicCare Tasmania to uphold its commitment to safe, high-quality, and ethically grounded services. This position ensures the organisation understands and meets its legislative and regulatory responsibilities by monitoring changes in relevant laws, standards, and compliance frameworks, and translating these into clear, practical guidance for staff.
As part of the Line 2 function within the Three Lines of Defence model, the Compliance Lead provides independent oversight of Line 1 compliance activities, offering expert advice, conducting control testing and compliance monitoring, and supporting continuous improvement. The role leads compliance education and training in collaboration with internal stakeholders, helping to build a culture of accountability, transparency, and service excellence.
The Compliance Lead also prepares compliance insights and reports for governance committees and the Board, as directed by the Head of Safety and Risk, contributing to strong organisational governance and informed decision-making.
Essential Requirements

Demonstrated experience in compliance, regulatory, governance, assurance, or risk roles within complex service environments.
- Strong ability to interpret legislation, standards, and regulatory guidance and apply sound professional judgement.
- Experience developing, maintaining, or overseeing compliance frameworks, obligations registers, or assurance programs.
- Proven experience providing Line 2 oversight, including compliance monitoring, reviews, or control testing.
- Ability to independently assess Line 1 activities, identify gaps or systemic issues, and recommend risk‑aligned improvements.
- Strong understanding of the Three Lines of Defence model and the role of independent oversight.
- High‑level analytical and critical thinking skills to assess complex issues and make defensible recommendations.
- Ability to prioritise and escalate compliance matters based on risk, impact, and organisational context.
- Ability to influence and advise leaders and teams without direct authority, using evidence and professional credibility.
- Experience partnering with senior leaders to embed compliance within operational practice.
- Capability to lead organisation‑wide compliance education and awareness initiatives.
- High‑level written and verbal communication skills, including preparing reports for senior leadership, committees, and Boards.
- Ability to explain complex compliance concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences.
- Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and discretion when managing sensitive or high‑risk matters.
- Commitment to ethical practice and alignment with CatholicCare Tasmania’s mission, values, and person‑centred approach.
