BAR MANAGER — EXPERIENCED HOSPITALITY LEADER
JB & Sons | Northern Beaches, Sydney
We’re looking for an experienced Bar Manager to take charge of our busy venue and lead our team.
This role is for someone who knows hospitality inside and out — not someone who needs to be told what to do.
We have a young and energetic team, and we need a mature, confident manager who can lead from the front, keep everyone accountable and make sure the venue runs properly every shift.
The Role
As Bar Manager, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the bar, including:
- Leading and managing a team of bartenders and junior staff
- Keeping staff accountable for their performance, presentation and behaviour
- Making sure everyone is doing their job and pulling their weight
- Training juniors and developing staff into better bartenders
- Maintaining high standards of service, cleanliness and professionalism
- Managing busy services and staying calm under pressure
- Opening and closing the venue correctly
- Managing stock, ordering and wastage
- Maintaining responsible service of alcohol standards
- Handling customer issues and difficult situations professionally
- Ensuring bar procedures and company standards are followed
- Communicating clearly with venue management and staff
- Dealing with staff issues when they arise — including having the difficult conversations
- Leading by example and setting the standard for the entire team
Who We're Looking For
You’ll ideally have several years of bar/hospitality management experience and be comfortable managing a team with a mix of experienced staff and juniors.
We're looking for someone who is:
✔ Confident — you're comfortable taking charge of a busy venue.
✔ Mature — you can handle pressure and difficult situations without losing your cool.
✔ Fair but firm — you treat people respectfully, but you don't let poor behaviour or poor performance slide.
✔ Organised — you know what needs to happen before, during and after service.
✔ A strong communicator — you can give clear instructions and address problems directly.
✔ Hands-on — you're not afraid to jump behind the bar when the team needs you.
✔ A natural leader — people listen to you because you earn their respect.
✔ Accountable — if something isn't right, you take ownership and fix it.
Most importantly...
We need someone who can manage juniors.
That means being able to train them, keep them focused, correct mistakes, set boundaries and sort problems out before they become bigger problems.
You won't be expected to be everyone's best friend.
You'll be expected to be a good leader.
If someone isn't pulling their weight, you'll address it.
If standards aren't being met, you'll fix it.
If the bar is getting slammed, you'll take control.
If a staff member needs guidance, you'll give it.
And if something goes wrong, you'll be the person who steps up and sorts it out.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Management position with genuine responsibility
- Supportive ownership and management team
- Opportunity to grow with an expanding hospitality group
- Staff benefits and venue perks
- A fast-paced, social working environment
- The opportunity to build and lead your own team
The Ideal Candidate
