About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and passionate teppanyaki Cook to join our kitchen team. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing high-quality Japanese and teppanyaki-style dishes, maintaining food safety and hygiene standards, and contributing to the smooth day-to-day operation of the kitchen.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Prepare and cook a range of Japanese teppanyaki dishes, including premium Wagyu beef, seafood, chicken and vegetables, cooked to order on the teppan grill
· Perform live teppanyaki-style cooking techniques in front of guests, including knife skills, grill work, timing and showmanship consistent with authentic teppanyaki service
· Season, marinate and prepare proteins and vegetables to Kiwami Teppanyaki's recipes and quality standards
· Prepare accompanying sauces, garnishes and side dishes (e.g. fried rice, garlic rice, miso soup, salads) to complement teppanyaki mains
· Control grill temperature and cooking times to ensure each dish is cooked to the correct doneness and standard for premium Wagyu and other proteins
· Ensure consistency in flavour, texture and presentation across all dishes served
· Adapt cooking style and pace to guest preferences and dietary requirements while maintaining authenticity of technique
· Maintain food safety and hygiene standards during preparation and cooking
· Keep the teppan grill and cooking station clean, organised and stocked throughout service
Skills and Experience Required
· Relevant qualification in commercial cookery (Certificate III or IV) or equivalent trade experience
· Previous experience working in a Japanese or teppanyaki-style restaurant highly regarded
· Sound knowledge of Japanese cuisine, ingredients, and cooking techniques
Pay: $75,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
