Nursery & Yard Assistant – Plant Knowledge

Nice Backyard is expanding and setting up a small retail plant nursery at our Somerton yard. We are looking for a reliable, hands-on person with good knowledge of plants who can help establish and maintain the nursery while also assisting with general yard duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Help set up and organise our new plant nursery
- Recommend suitable plants and provide basic advice to customers
- Water, feed, prune and maintain plant health
- Monitor plants for pests, diseases and other problems
- Receive, label, price and display new plant stock
- Keep the nursery clean, attractive and well organised
- Monitor stock levels and help prepare supplier orders
- Assist customers with selecting and loading products
- Help with general yard duties when the nursery is quiet
About You
- Good practical knowledge of plants and basic plant care
- Previous nursery, garden centre, landscaping or horticulture experience is preferred
- Friendly and confident when assisting customers
- Reliable, punctual and willing to work as part of a team
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors
- Able to work independently and take responsibility for the nursery area
- Forklift licence is helpful but not essential
We are open to either:
- A part-time applicant who can focus mainly on the nursery; or
- A full-time applicant who can manage nursery duties and also assist in the yard.
Experience is important, but formal horticultural qualifications are not essential if you have strong practical plant knowledge.
Location: Somerton, Melbourne
Availability: Weekday and weekend availability will be highly regarded
Employment: Part-time or full-time, depending on the successful applicant
