The Chaplaincy and Professional Standards Manager is an integrated leadership role within the Placements and Safe Church team, bringing together responsibility for the oversight and development of chaplaincy ministries across South Australia and the promotion of professional standards, ethics, supervision, and accountability for ministry agents.
The role reflects the Synod’s commitment to safe, healthy, and effective ministry. Chaplaincy and professional standards are deeply interconnected expressions of the church’s mission. Chaplains engage with people in times of vulnerability, crisis, hope, and transition, while professional standards ensure that all ministry is undertaken with integrity, accountability, and care. Together, these responsibilities support the flourishing of ministry agents and the safeguarding of those they serve.
Working across congregations, presbyteries, chaplaincy organisations, Uniting College, and community partners, the Manager fosters a culture where formation, supervision, ethics, and pastoral wellbeing are understood as essential dimensions of faithful ministry.
The integration of chaplaincy oversight and professional standards within a single role provides:
- A coherent framework of accountability and pastoral support for ministry agents;
- Greater relational depth and continuity in supporting ministers, chaplains, and supervisors;
- Improved missional effectiveness through coordinated engagement across the Synod;
- Stronger safeguarding practices in ministries serving vulnerable people; and
- A culture of ongoing formation in which ethics, supervision, and professional development are experienced as supports for flourishing ministry.
