About the role
As part of the Next Generation Procurement Strategy, the City of Melbourne is establishing a new centralised sourcing function within the Procurement and Commercial Management branch. This initiative will centralise RFQ and quotation activity for low volume branches, reducing procurement effort for operational teams, improving visibility and governance, and delivering stronger value for money outcomes across the organisation.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a lead role in establishing and embedding a new service that will influence how procurement support is delivered across the organisation.
As the Sourcing Lead, you will be responsible for leading the centralised sourcing function, driving the end to end RFQ process, strengthening procurement governance, identifying aggregation and savings opportunities, and ensuring a high quality service experience for internal stakeholders. You will partner closely with branches across the organisation, provide strategic procurement advice and lead continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, compliance and commercial outcomes.

In this role you will:
- Lead and coordinate the centralised sourcing and quotation service across agreed branches
- Manage the end to end RFQ process to ensure timely, compliant and value for money outcomes
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and act as the primary point of contact for sourcing support
- Identify opportunities to aggregate demand and leverage purchasing power across the organisation
- Drive procurement governance, compliance and process consistency
- Monitor service performance and ensure agreed service levels are achieved
- Analyse sourcing data and provide reporting, insights and recommendations to senior leaders
- Lead supplier engagement and support negotiations to achieve commercial benefits
- Develop and refine sourcing frameworks, standard operating procedures and templates
- Drive process improvements, automation opportunities and operational efficiencies
- Coach and support team members while contributing to a high performing and customer focused culture
- Support future planning and forecasting activities to proactively manage sourcing demand
About you
You are an experienced procurement professional who enjoys combining strategic thinking with operational delivery.
You are a natural relationship builder who can engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels and influence outcomes through strong communication, commercial acumen and sound judgment.
You thrive in environments where you can improve processes, establish new ways of working and deliver measurable business value. You are equally comfortable leading people, managing competing priorities and using data to drive decision-making.
What your experience might look like
- Significant experience in procurement, sourcing, contracts or commercial management within a complex organisation
- Experience leading procurement initiatives, sourcing programs or service delivery functions
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management capability
- Demonstrated experience improving business processes and driving operational improvements
- Experience negotiating commercial outcomes and achieving value for money results
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
- Experience managing procurement governance and compliance requirements
- Ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable recommendations
- Experience working with procurement systems, sourcing platforms and workflow tools
- Relevant qualifications in procurement, business, commerce, supply chain or a related discipline
