Primary objective
Maintain the school facilities including buildings, grounds and security to provide a safe and secure learning environment
and provide support for staff and students according to school policy and procedures.
Context statement
Nakara Primary is an urban school with a student population of approximately 450 including Preschool and an Early Learning
Centre. The school community has a large number of families with English as an additional language. Nakara currently has a
focus on Restorative Practices and developing strong Wellbeing and Inclusion practices to ensure all students are able to
access education in a safe and nurturing environment
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Maintain the safety and security of school buildings, facilities and equipment including the school grounds and gardens
under direction of the Principal and Business Manager.
2. Identify and report urgent / non-urgent minor repairs and maintenance, pest control and liaise with external contractors
and carry out additional tasks requiring technical knowledge of practices, procedures and skills obtained to ensure the
school premises are in a safe, neat, and orderly condition.
3. Ensure work area, tools, equipment, and chemicals are used and stored safely.
4. Maintain effective operational support including deliveries and pickups, relocation of furniture and equipment.
5. Assist classes by driving the school bus on school excursions, camps, sporting, and special events as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Well-developed communication, confidentiality and interpersonal skills when dealing with the public, contractors,
teachers, students and families.
2. Maintenance and general handyman experience with an ability to produce a high-quality result/product.
3. Proven ability to work as a team member, use initiative, prioritise workload and work with limited supervision.
4. The ability to work and positively interact with others in a cross-cultural environment.
5. Current NT driver’s licence and current working with children clearance notice.
6. Knowledge or experience working with children and teachers in an educational or supportive environment.
Desirable
1. A relevant trade qualification, trade experience or technical knowledge and skills obtained through further training.
2. Ability and willingness to contribute to the extracurricular life of the school.
3. Light Rigid Licence or willing to obtain.
