We are looking for a qualified accountant to join our Finance team.
The successful candidate will contribute to a team of accounting specialists and will be responsible for financial reporting, accounting compliance, taxation, financial analysis and the maintenance of effective accounting controls across Body Corporate entities.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Accounting
- Reviewing and analysing financial records, invoices and supporting documentation to ensure the completeness, accuracy and compliance of financial information used in annual financial reporting.
- Preparing and analysing management accounts and financial reports and addressing any discrepancies,
- Managing all adjustments and accruals for Body Corporate financial statements,
- Reviewing financial statements and accounting records prepared by Body Corporate Managers, identify and resolve discrepancies, and ensure financial statements comply with applicable accounting and reporting requirements prior to finalisation.
- Prepare, review and finalise financial statements and management reports for Body Corporate entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with applicable accounting and statutory requirements.
- Reconcile no longer managed corporations and prepare for handover,
- Support the onboarding of new Corporations by reviewing and establishing appropriate financial records, accounting processes and reporting requirements.
- Prepare financial records, schedules and supporting documentation required for external audit processes.
Financial Compliance, Taxation and Analysis
- Develop, review and update internal controls relevant to accounting systems and financial reporting.
- Assist with budgeting, financial analysis and the preparation of reports to support effective financial management and decision-making.
- Prepare and complete quarterly GST and BASS returns nationally, ensuring information is accurate and submitted within applicable timeframes.
- Prepare and complete annual income tax returns and associated supporting schedules.
- Provide accounting and financial compliance advice to managers and internal stakeholders.
- Identify financial reporting and compliance issues and assist with implementing appropriate accounting adjustments and process improvements.
- Support the preparation of financial reports and analysis as required by management.
Accounting Processes and Compliance
- Maintain accounting records and supporting documentation in accordance with Whittles policies, procedures and applicable financial and compliance requirements.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes, systems and controls to promote accuracy, efficiency and compliance.
- Manage accounting and compliance-related requests received through relevant internal channels and ensure matters are appropriately actioned or referred to the relevant staff member.
- Maintain accurate and accessible financial records and documentation to support reporting, compliance and audit requirements.
- Comply with Whittles Policies and Procedures and take all reasonable steps to minimise risk to persons, property and Whittles.
Essential qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Accounting
Experience:
- Previous experience in a commercial accounting role or related role.
- Proven budget management skills
- Strong understanding of the financial effects of decisions and be able to make informed recommendations to maximise financial sustainability
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to analyse financial information and identify discrepancies.
- Ability to work collaboratively with managers and other accounting and finance professionals.
