Downer’s Energy & Utilities team is seeking an experienced Pipeline Patroller / Inspector to help protect and secure critical pipeline infrastructure across Sydney.
This is a hands-on, field-based role where you’ll be the go-to person on site—supervising third-party works near live pipeline assets and making sure all activities are carried out safely, compliantly, and to client standards.
You’ll work closely with asset owners, contractors, councils and internal teams, playing a key role in protecting pipelines while essential infrastructure works are delivered. If you enjoy autonomy, responsibility and being trusted to make sound safety decisions on site, this role offers real impact and purpose.
We’re looking for a safety-focused professional with strong pipeline experience who is confident managing site activities and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising third-party works within 5 metres of pipeline assets or easements
- Protecting pipeline infrastructure by enforcing permit conditions and client procedures
- Monitoring works for safety, environmental and asset impacts
- Identifying hazards and potential risks, and reporting incidents or near misses
- Conducting pipeline patrol and surveillance activities
- Liaising with clients, contractors, councils and asset owners
- Preparing inspection reports, incident notifications and audit documentation
- Supporting maintenance and remediation works through coordination and reporting
- Actively promoting Downer’s Zero Harm and sustainability culture on every site
You’ll bring:
- Proven experience in pipeline patrolling and inspection
- Relevant pipeline patrolling and inspection training
- Strong knowledge of client procedures (e.g. Viva Energy, Ampol, APA, Jemena or similar operators)
- A current driver’s licence
- A solid understanding of site safety and legislative requirements
- Clear communication skills and confidence dealing with multiple stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
A self-motivated, reliable and safety-first approach to work
