Primary objective
The primary purpose of these positions is to provide leadership in Adult Basic Physician Trainee Education and Training within the Royal
Darwin Hospital and secondment rotations to regional hospitals.
Context statement
Co-Director of Physician Education (DPE) is a clinical leadership role which provides oversight of BPT teaching and training in the local
context either at Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) or secondment sites. These roles will directly report to the Divisional Director (Medicine)
and work in partnership with all clinical units where trainees are rotated and divisional and hospital medical administration. Two successful
candidates are expected to work together to meet the Basic Physician Training requirements.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Oversight of educational requirements and longitudinal progression of individual basic trainees allocated to RDH and secondment
sites.
2. BPT recruitment and term allocation according to trainee needs in consultation with Divisional Rostering Team.
3. Support trainees allocated to Royal Darwin Hospital and secondment hospitals.
4. Work collaboratively with the Divisional Medical Co-Director and Director of Medical Services to develop new opportunities and
pathways for training as required.
5. Ensure RACP training requirements are met and RDH and secondment sites maintain accreditation.
6. Ensure Trainees are supported and receive orientation, review, and support during attachments to various clinical units within and
outside Royal Darwin Hospital.
7. Acting to protect and promote supervision and teaching/learning culture within the workplace.
8. Support management of basic physician trainees in difficulties
9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role-modelling behaviour.
10. Provision of support for Educational Supervisors and other consultant supervisors.
11. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies, and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to
ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
2. Completion of RACP Supervisor Development workshops
3. Demonstrated Strong interest and experience in clinical leadership, Medical Education, and Training.
4. Demonstrated Significant clinical service commitment at RDPH.
5. Demonstrated Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, and the ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural
work environment, as a team member.
6. Proven effective leadership, interpersonal, conflict management and negotiation skills.
7. Demonstrated interest in and a commitment to improving Aboriginal health.
8. Demonstrated Evidence of commitment to continuing education, teaching, research, and quality improvement activities.
9. Demonstrated ability to manage self and others, monitor performance, manage change, and develop policy with an understanding of
EEO and WHS principles and policy.
10. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

1. Qualification in clinical teaching/education
