The Role
As a Project Fire Safety Engineer, you will be a key member of the Canberra engineering team, working on a variety of projects across commercial, residential, and infrastructure sectors including rail and road tunnel fire safety. You will be responsible for delivering fire safety engineering analysis, performance solutions, and compliance reporting under the National Construction Code and applicable Australian Standards.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake fire safety engineering analysis, fire and evacuation modelling, and risk assessment of buildings and infrastructure including rail and road tunnel projects.
Prepare fire safety engineering reports and performance solutions to comply with the National Construction Code (NCC) and applicable Australian Standards.
Develop fire safety strategies for complex projects across commercial, residential, and infrastructure sectors.
Undertake fire safety reporting, site visits, and inspections to evaluate the fire safety of buildings and infrastructure including passive fire protection systems.
Liaise with interested parties including builders, project managers, architects, and regulatory authorities.
Perform fire test calculations for fire hazard properties and evaluate fire system designs.
Assist in ISO 9001 and ISO 17020 accreditation processes and participate in inspection procedures.
Eligibility Criteria
Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering, or related discipline).
Master of Science (MSc) degree or Master of Engineering (MEng) in a relevant engineering field.
Minimum 2 years of professional experience in fire safety engineering, with demonstrated experience in infrastructure projects including rail and road tunnel fire safety.
Strong knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC), Australian Standards, and fire safety regulatory frameworks.
Proficiency in fire engineering analysis tools and computational modelling software.
Advanced computing skills in Microsoft Office applications.
Good awareness of building codes, design standards, testing standards, and procedures.
Excellent report writing, communication, and stakeholder liaison skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Desirable Criteria
Experience in code compliance.
Experience in fire and evacuation modelling software (e.g., FDS, Pathfinder, CFAST, B-RISK, or similar).
Familiarity with passive fire protection systems and inspection procedures.
Membership or eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia or equivalent professional body.
Experience working on international projects or in international fire safety consultancy environments.
Pay: $80,000.00 per year
