Position Title: Optical Assistant - Part Time

Castle Hill Family Optometrist is a family-owned practice soon to open in Showground Village.
You will play a key role in shaping the patient experience and contributing to the successful launch of our brand-new practice. This is a unique opportunity to be part of something from the very beginning, working closely with the owners to establish a high-quality, family-focused practice with a strong emphasis on exceptional service.
About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and customer-focused Optical Assistant to join our team. This position is ideal for someone passionate about eyewear, patient care, and team leadership, with the ability to support the day-to-day operations of a growing optical practice.
You will work closely with the Practice Directors and Optometrists to deliver exceptional patient experiences, drive sales performance, mentor team members, and maintain high clinical and retail standards.
About You
- Optical Dispenser or Optical Assistant with minimum 1 year current work experience
- Good computer skills and quick learner of new technology
- Leadership or supervisory experience within optical retail highly regarded
- Strong knowledge of lenses, frame styling, and optical products
- Experience using HICAPS and practice management software Sunix is advantageous but not compulsory.
- Availability to work on Saturdays (9:00am – 5:30pm) is essential for this role
Key Responsibilities
Optical Dispensing & Patient Care
- Provide professional frame styling and lens recommendations tailored to patient needs and lifestyle
- Accurately dispense prescriptions including single vision, multifocal, occupational, specialty lenses and coatings such as transition and polarised lenses.
- Perform frame adjustments, fittings, repairs, and troubleshooting
- Deliver exceptional customer service and build long-term patient relationships
Leadership & Team Support
- Assist in managing daily operations of the practice
- Support, mentor, and motivate team members to achieve sales and service goals
- Help train new staff in dispensing procedures and customer service standards
- Assist with rostering, workflow management, and maintaining a productive team environment
Retail & Practice Operations
- Maintain high presentation standards throughout the practice
- Support achievement of KPIs and business growth objectives
- Assist with recalls, appointment coordination, and administrative tasks as required
