Summary
- Role: Casual, around 21 hours per week.
- Responsibilities: Stock processing; Receive stock, label stock, shelve stock, weekly inventory checks, pick and process stock returns.
- Capacity to lift 15kg boxes multiple times a shift.
- Immediate start.

Role Purpose
Efficient and accurate inventory management is foundational to success in retail. Working at a small retailer, you will be involved with every phase of the product lifecycle. Every day you are in store, you will have an immediate, meaningful impact on the customer experience and commercial success of BooksPlus.
The retail experience offered by BooksPlus enriches the lives of our customers far beyond that of a commercial transaction. Being a bookseller means engaging with people and, being interested in who they are and what they are looking for.
We carry a broad range of titles across both fiction and non-fiction for all reading levels. We also carry a range of non-book items that includes greeting cards and stationery. The role asks you to maintain an open mind, develop deep product knowledge and have a proactive approach to improving our inventory management workflows.
What we are looking for:
Aptitude for teamwork.
- We are looking for someone with a willingness to learn, share knowledge and be creative in their approach to problems. They must be able to navigate interpersonal relationships with empathy and contribute to an inclusive workplace for all.
Experience operating within a customer service role or environment.
- The relationships we develop with our customers are the most important aspect of our trade. We are looking for someone who understands the importance of fostering genuine relationships with customers to the long-term success of our bookshop.
Effective inventory management skills and the ability to drive commercial outcomes.
- We are looking for someone who can work with consistency, efficiency and with high attention to detail. As soon as a delivery arrives, the stock must be unpacked quickly and shelved neatly.
An avid reader who has, or is open to developing, knowledge across a broad range of genres and reading levels.
- We are looking for someone with a desire to share their knowledge of books with customers and our team. They want to understand all relevant aspects of our shop as well as the wider bookselling and publishing industry.
To be successful
You must demonstrate the following:
- A passion for books.
- Strong ability to adapt to new software and IT processes.
- High level verbal communication skills.
- A tidy and orderly approach to work with good attention to detail.
- Capacity to lift 15kg boxes multiple times a shift.
Advantageous
- Previous experience working in a bookstore, retail, library or school.
