Unaccredited Trainee Role - Department of Anaesthesia

The Manning Base Hospital, Unaccredited Trainee programme offers interested Unaccredited Trainee’s the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, skills and experience in Anaesthesia, Pain Medicine, Perioperative Medicine and Critical Care to prepare them for both specialist training and rural general practice training. This role is an opportunity to develop in ANZCA roles in practice: medical expert, communicator, collaborator, leader and manager, health advocate, scholar, and professional.
The Unaccredited Trainee, Anaesthesia positions are suitable for applicants wishing to obtain further general Anaesthetics and Critical Care experience in preparation for a critical care, career pathway. Manning Base Hospital offers a yearlong structured programme within the discipline of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at Manning Base Hospital.
The Anaesthesia Unaccredited Trainee clinical year consists of a minimum, 3 terms in Anaesthesia. A term of relief in another Critical Care specialty may be required.
Participation in relief / nights (encompasses Acute Medicine) are expected on an equitable basis.
The applicant must have a commitment to rural practice and rural communities and hold current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Manning Hospital consists of 180 beds and, within, provides an excellent range of other specialist inpatient services including Emergency Medicine, Palliative Care, General Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Psychiatry, Renal, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anaesthesia, Rehabilitation Services, Urology and Oncology Services to the local communities of Taree, Forster, Tuncurry and surrounding Lower Mid North Coast.
Manning Base Hospital treats approximately 25,000 inpatients, 33,000 Emergency Department patients and 90,700 outpatients each year.
With a population of over 90,300 and with the median age of 52 years old the Lower Mid North Coast Sector is projected to have the highest growth in the group age of 85 years and over.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- At least three years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).
- Have a genuine interest in and demonstrated commitment to rural practice and rural communities and a future career as a GP Rural Generalist or rural critical care specialist.
- Evidence of ongoing participation in continuing medical education / professional development e.g. completion of relevant courses such as ALS, BASIC, EMST, APLS or similar.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.
- Demonstrated contribution to scholarly activities e.g. audits, QA/QI, research and teaching.
- Commitment to developing non-technical skills including task management, situation awareness, team working and decision-making skills.
- Preparedness and ability to participate in a 24 hour/ 7 day a week roster including weekends, evenings, nights and on-call.
