Construction Hire Assistant / Yard Operative
Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and hands-on individual to join our construction hire business. The role involves maintaining hire equipment, delivering machinery to sites, and providing excellent customer service. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in keeping equipment in top condition, and is comfortable dealing with customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect machinery and equipment before and after hire to ensure safety and correct operation
- Clean, grease, and carry out basic maintenance on equipment
- Identify and report faults or damage to management
- Prepare equipment for hire and return
- Deliver and collect equipment to and from construction sites as required
- Load and unload machinery safely
- Deal with customers in a professional and friendly manner
- Answer phone calls, take bookings, and respond to customer enquiries
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe yard/workspace
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in construction, plant hire, or machinery handling (preferred but not essential)
- Basic mechanical knowledge or willingness to learn
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
- Full driving licence (essential)
