About the Role
Cosy Home Care is seeking an experienced and compassionate Mental Health Support Worker to join our Supported Independent Living (SIL) team in Ivanhoe East.
This role involves supporting an adult participant with complex mental health needs, emotional regulation challenges, and behaviours of concern. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, person-centred supports that promote independence, emotional wellbeing, community participation, and achievement of the participant's individual goals.
We are looking for someone who is calm, patient, resilient, and passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of people living with psychosocial disability and complex support needs.
Ongoing Weekly Shifts
- Thursday: 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm
- Friday: 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Immediate start available.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, person-centred supports within a Supported Independent Living (SIL) environment.
- Good knowledge of neurodivergent required.
- Willingness to work under pressure.
- Build positive and therapeutic relationships using a trauma-informed and recovery-oriented approach.
- Support participants with emotional regulation and implement Positive Behaviour Support strategies in accordance with Behaviour Support Plans.
- Administer medication in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
- Assist with meal preparation, domestic tasks, and maintaining a safe and clean home environment.
- Support participants to attend appointments, engage in community activities, and develop meaningful social connections.
- Encourage skill development, independence, decision-making, and achievement of individual goals.
- Complete accurate progress notes, incident reports, and required documentation.
- Work collaboratively with allied health professionals, Support Coordinators, families, and the broader multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain professional boundaries while promoting participant dignity, choice, and independence.
- Comply with NDIS Practice Standards, workplace health and safety requirements, and organisational policies.
Essential Requirements
- Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or higher (Mental Health Preferred)
- Experience supporting people with psychosocial disability or complex support needs.
- Demonstrated experience supporting participants with behaviours of concern and emotional regulation strategies.
- Experience implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
- Strong understanding of recovery-oriented and person-centred practice.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Current First Aid (HLTAID011 or equivalent).
- Current CPR Certificate (HLTAID009 or equivalent).
- Required: Current Victorian Driver Licence (Probationary or Full).
- Required: Access to a reliable vehicle with comprehensive insurance.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Full working rights in Australia.
Desirable
- Certificate IV in Mental Health.
- Previous experience working within Supported Independent Living (SIL).
- Medication administration competency.
Pay: $36.00 – $60.00 per hour
