Why YOU are important to us and what impact will you have on the Graduate Development Program: ABARES stream and the department's goal.
The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) is a research bureau within the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). The ABARES Stream is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of research and policy, applying what you have learnt at university or the workplace to interesting and challenging problems.
The research part of ABARES means you will apply what you have learnt at university or the workplace to interesting and challenging problems.
The policy part of our work means that you will collaborate with colleagues in DAFF and other departments, helping to shape Australian Government policies to improve the wellbeing of Australians. ABARES provides the opportunity to work on some of the biggest challenges facing Australian agriculture, from increased global trade protectionism to the design of biodiversity and carbon markets.
The Program
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry’s (DAFF) Graduate Development Program is a structured, 12 month program designed to support graduates as they build capability, gain practical experience, and establish their careers in the APS. The program combines meaningful work with formal learning and development, mentoring, and 3 workplace rotations, enabling graduates to develop a strong understanding of the department’s work while contributing to real outcomes from day one.
Key features of the program include:
- Program duration: A 12 month program, running from February to February.
- Workplace rotations: Graduates complete 3 workplace rotations across different functions and divisions within the department, providing broad exposure and diverse experience.
At ABARES, ideas matter and, as a graduate, your existing skills and perspectives will be valued from day one. Through DAFF's structured Graduate Development Program, you will be supported in an engaging and challenging environment designed to help you build capability, broaden your experience, and progress your career.
This is where you play an important role.
