Job Description (Key Responsibilities)
The Literacy Intervention Teacher will work collaboratively with staff to improve literacy outcomes for students in Years 5-9, with a particular focus on those requiring targeted intervention. The role will include:
Planning, delivering, and evaluating targeted literacy intervention programs for small groups and individual students.
Using data (e.g. formative and summative assessment) to identify student needs, monitor progress, and adjust teaching accordingly.
Implementing evidence-based literacy practices, including explicit teaching of reading, writing, and comprehension strategies.
Maintaining accurate records of student progress and contributing to reporting processes.
Communicating effectively with staff, students, and families regarding student progress and strategies for support.
Contributing to a positive, inclusive, and high-expectations learning environment.
Person Specification (Skills, Knowledge & Experience)
Essential
Demonstrated experience in teaching literacy, particularly in upper primary and/or middle years (Years 5-9).
Strong knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction (e.g. P.A, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing).
Proven ability to analyse student data and use it to inform targeted teaching and intervention.
Highly effective explicit teaching practice, including the ability to scaffold learning for diverse learners.
Experience working with students requiring additional support, including those below benchmark.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to whole-school improvement.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
