The City and Environment Directorate is seeking Expressions of Interest from those with relevant qualifications interested in becoming a member on the Tree Advisory Panel (the Panel).
The Panel is established under the Urban Forest Act 2023 (the Act) to provide expert advice to the Conservator of Flora and Fauna on matters relating to tree protection in the ACT.
There is one expected member vacancy commencing in early 2027 with the successful candidate to be appointed for a period of three years.
Members are expected to bring relevant experience to Panel discussions and decisions to support the Panel in equitably carrying out the objects of the Act. This includes but is not limited to:

knowledge of the Act and its application in the ACT;

demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: arboriculture, forestry or horticulture;

assisting the Panel with assessing applications;
-
reviewing and assisting with the development of recommendations to the Conservator of Flora and Fauna;
-
acquires strong written and oral skills for the production of assessment reports;
-
ensuring good governance of the Panel;
-
actively participating in Panel discussions and decisions; and
-
guiding equitable decisions that ensure strong governance outcomes.
Panel members must hold extensive knowledge and experience in one or more of the following fields:
-
arboriculture;
-
forestry; or
-
horticulture.
Collectively, the panel must include expertise in at least two of the above fields, and at least one member must have extensive knowledge and experience in arboriculture or forestry.
Panel meetings are held approximately every month and are remunerated under section 10 of the Remuneration Tribunal Act 1995 in accordance with Determination 13 of 2025 at a rate of $560 per diem for members.
Note: Appointments are for a period of up to three years.
