About the role
Join Indigo Shire Council as an Environmental Health Officer, where you'll help protect public health by ensuring compliance with environmental health, food safety and public health legislation while supporting a safe and healthy community. This varied role combines inspections, investigations, education and regulatory enforcement, with opportunities to work across Council, government agencies and regional partners.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections, investigations and compliance activities for food businesses, registered premises, onsite wastewater systems and environmental health matters.
- Respond to public health issues including infectious diseases, environmental nuisances, pest control and tobacco and vaping legislation.
- Provide expert advice to the community, businesses and Council, while supporting health promotion initiatives and municipal public health planning.
- Prepare reports, maintain legislative compliance, represent Council in legal proceedings where required, and contribute to regional environmental health services and emergency management.
About you
We're looking for a motivated Environmental Health professional who enjoys balancing regulatory compliance with community education and customer service. You'll be organised, solutions-focused and confident working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Qualifications: Degree (or near completion) in Environmental Health or a related discipline, and a current driver's licence.
- Knowledge & Experience: Sound knowledge of public and environmental health legislation, with experience (or the ability to quickly develop skills) in inspections, investigations, compliance and environmental health equipment.
- Skills: Excellent communication, customer service, organisation, time management, report writing, problem-solving and computer skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Personal Attributes: Professional, approachable and resilient, with sound judgement, attention to detail, diplomacy and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach to working with the community and stakeholders.
- Driver's License: A current driver's licence is required, along with a willingness to regularly travel throughout the Shire to conduct inspections and provide on-site services.
