As Deputy Company Secretary & Deputy Counsel Governance, you’ll partner closely with our General Counsel & Company Secretary, Board and Executive Leadership Team to shape how we govern, make decisions and deliver on our purpose.
It’s a role with real influence supporting the Board, strengthening governance across a complex organisation, and helping us stay sharp, accountable and future-focused as we grow.
We’re looking for someone who brings credibility, sound judgement and a practical mindset; someone who can cut through complexity, build trust quickly, and lead a strong team while lifting how we do things.
Your key responsibilities will be to:

Lead and strengthen the governance and company secretariat function

Support the Board and Committees to operate effectively and with confidence

Partner with senior leaders to provide clear, practical governance advice

Ensure oversight of and compliance with all legal, regulatory and licensing obligations across Mission Australia

Lead the ongoing evolution of governance frameworks and corporate structure to support organisational strategy and growth

Continue to evolve governance frameworks as the organisation grows

Lift capability, systems and ways of working across the function

Build strong relationships across the organisation and with key stakeholders
Requirements for success
We’re looking for an experienced governance leader who is comfortable operating at Board and Executive level, and who enjoys working in a purpose-driven environment.
You will bring:
-
Bachelor of Laws or equivalent legal qualification with a current unrestricted practicing certificate

Strong experience in governance, company secretariat or a regulatory environment
-
Company secretarial qualification or accreditation from an appropriate body (e.g., Australian Institute of Company Directors, Governance Institute of Australia / Chartered Secretary) highly desirable.

Graduate or Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors or equivalent governance qualification desirable.

The credibility and confidence to engage at Board level

Sound judgement and the ability to balance risk with practical outcomes

Experience leading teams and driving improvement

A collaborative approach and strong communication skills

A genuine connection to purpose-led work
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
