As a valued member of the Clinical Coding Education & Audit team, you will work collaboratively with Clinical Coding Managers, Clinical Documentation Specialists, clinicians and health information professionals to strengthen coding quality, improve documentation standards and support strategic funding outcomes across the District.

What you'll be doing
As the District Clinical Coding Educator / Auditor, you will play a pivotal role in leading the planning, delivery and evaluation of clinical coding education, training and audit programs across WSLHD. You will provide expert guidance on coding quality, documentation improvement, casemix optimisation and compliance with national coding standards while supporting the ongoing development of both trainee and experienced clinical coders.
Key responsibilities include:

Designing and delivering clinical coding education, auditing and quality improvement programs across the District.

Analysing data from reporting and audit systems to identify coding risks, trends, opportunities and compliance issues.

Mentoring and supporting clinical coders through education pathways, performance development and progression programs.

Partnering with Clinical Documentation Specialists and clinicians to improve documentation quality and accurately reflect patient complexity.

Providing expert advice on complex coding issues, coding standards, DRG assignment and Activity Based Funding outcomes.

How to Apply

Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Information Management) or equivalent tertiary qualification, and/or relevant experience with eligibility for membership of HIMAA

Completion of (or currently undertaking or willing to undertake) recognised qualifications in clinical coding audit

High level experience and competency and extensive recent clinical coding experience at tertiary level using ICD10AM & ACHI with a thorough understanding of the Australian Coding Standards and a high level understanding of Casemix, DRGs and Activity Based Funding models and their application within the health system

Demonstrated ability to lead, conduct, measure, validate and sustain coding quality improvement activities in relation to clinically coded data, including coding audits, ACBA or similar audit tools, error correction, analysis and presentation of results

Demonstrated experience in developing, designing and delivering education and training programs related to clinical coding

Ability to extract data from source systems & data warehouses and implement and use available coding audit tools including PICQ to review, trend, analyse, benchmark and evaluate coding quality, and report on these activities in a suitable manner to WSLHD Executive

Ability to independently feedback individual coding quality results to coding team members and clinicians to ensure coding is optimal

Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, prioritisation and organisation skills to communicate coding quality results to key stakeholders
