THE ROLE
Reporting to the Venue Manager, the Assistant Manager plays a key leadership role in the day-to-day operation of the Salisbury Hotel, with a strong emphasis on delivering exceptional food and beverage experiences.
Working alongside department leaders, you'll help drive service standards, profitability, team development and operational excellence across the venue. You'll be a visible leader on the floor, supporting our restaurant, bar, functions and gaming operations while ensuring every guest receives outstanding hospitality.

This is a full-time salaried position. Flexibility to work across a 7-day roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays, is essential.
Key Responsibilities

Lead day-to-day venue operations with a strong focus on food and beverage service.

Be a visible and approachable leader during service, supporting the team to deliver exceptional guest experiences.

Coach, mentor and develop supervisors and frontline employees.

Support recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management in line with Matthews Hospitality policies.

Drive service standards, product knowledge and upselling opportunities across food and beverage operations.

Work closely with the Venue Manager to achieve financial, operational and customer satisfaction targets.

Assist with labour management, rostering and wage control.

Monitor stock levels, ordering and inventory to minimise wastage and maximise profitability.

Support the planning and delivery of functions, promotions and special events.

Ensure the venue is presented to the highest standard at all times.

Maintain compliance with Liquor Licensing legislation, Responsible Service of Alcohol requirements and the Work Health and Safety Act 2012.

Respond professionally and efficiently to guest feedback and resolve issues with confidence.

Assist in leading the venue in the absence of the Venue Manager.
Complete other duties as required to support the successful operation of the hotel.

Previous experience in a hospitality leadership role such as Assistant Manager, Duty Manager or Restaurant Manager.

Strong food and beverage knowledge with a genuine passion for quality hospitality.

Experience managing busy service periods while maintaining high standards.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands.

Commercial awareness and an understanding of labour, stock and cost control.

A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
