Primary objective
As part of the school leadership team, provide educational leadership and management, and implement Departmental and
school based policies and programs to achieve optimal educational outcomes for students.
Context statement
Katherine South Primary School is an open plan school of approximately 200 students. The primary school is located in
Katherine South on Riverbank Drive and includes Preschool to year 6. Of the student enrolment, approximately 42% are
Indigenous and 5% are Defence families. The school is a high performing learning community with a clear focus on
inclusiveness, celebrating diversity and growing a strong sense of community.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure the delivery of effective educational programs to meet the needs of students in accordance with Departmental
policy through effective leadership and positive partnerships with the school community.
2. Provide leadership and support in the formulation, implementation and review of school policy, procedures and strategic
plans using educational research to achieve improved outcomes in partnership with parents, students and staff.
3. Provide leadership in the school with Students with Additional Needs, student well-being and behaviour.
4. Deputise for the Principal as required and undertake an appropriate teaching load.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the NT and current Working with Children card.
2. Knowledge, experience and skill in leading the planning, co-ordination and implementation of whole school educational
and well-being programs.
3. Demonstrated ability to develop and align the vision, mission and strategic goals of the school with the Education NT
Strategic Framework to drive school improvement.
4. Demonstrated ability to foster and develop appropriate relationships with staff, students, parents, the regional education
network and the wider community.
5. Demonstrated ability to support and develop staff through mentoring, the delivery of targeted professional learning,
collaborative practices and coaching.
6. Expertise and proven ability to lead teams through data analysis, differentiated planning processes and highly effective
pedagogical practice.
Desirable
1. Demonstrated understanding of Restorative Justice.
