The Opportunity
Complex Liabilities, Insurance and Regulation (CLIR) is Australia’s only dedicated specialist complex tort and other liabilities and insurance lifecycle practice and home to Australia’s market-leading media and defamation practice.
CLIR brings together market‑leading expertise across complex torts and other civil liabilities, insurance advice and disputes, public law, regulatory responses and enforcement, supporting boards, senior executives, Government and insurers in matters where legal, commercial and reputational issues intersect.
An outstanding opportunity is available for a Senior Associate with at least 5 years’ post‑admission and technical experience to join our nationally recognised insurance practice in Sydney. Working directly with Chern Tan, and his market leading team, you will play a key role in a specialist practice spanning multiple states, advising primarily on personal injuries and sensitive claims matters.
This role sits within a supportive, flexible and highly collaborative team. You will be trusted to take ownership of matters, client engagement, mentor junior lawyers, and deliver top tier quality, pragmatic, government focused that reflect a deep understanding of clients' needs. Our team advises a diverse and well-established client base, including insurers, government bodies, churches, and educational institutions.
About You
We welcome applications from lawyers who:
- have 5+ years' experience in personal injuries claims, with demonstrated expertise in handling sensitive claims
- Strong knowledge of civil procedure and litigation processes
- Proven ability to thoroughly and sensitively interrogate evidence, addressing both liability and quantum considerations
- Excellent organisational skills and a track record of successfully managing a varied claims portfolio
- A client-centric approach, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and industry professionals
- A collaborative working style and the ability to thrive in a team environment
