About the Role
Lead and develop an Underwriting team, in the planning and implementation of effective underwriting procedures and processes, to ensure the on-going financial viability of the Scheme. Manage and oversee the work undertaken by the team of Underwriters, and support, coach and develop team members to meet and exceed agreed performance indicators, to ensure the business meets; key objectives, timeframes, compliance and operational requirements.

Duties
It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same; as an Underwriting Manager – Mid Market
you will:
- Provide operational direction and leadership to the Underwriting team in the development and implementation of effective service delivery to a portfolio of mid-market customers.
- Provide advice and recommendations to Service Operations General Manager and Head of Underwriting Operations Manager on underwriting matters including any recommendations on improving the model.
- Manage the implementation of any changes to underwriting, to enhance Scheme effectiveness and to achieve business and customer objectives.
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of strategic programs to enhance Scheme underwriting.
- Lead, manage and implement projects to address specific elements of underwriting, to achieve project deliverables and contribute to achieving improved scheme outcomes.
- Lead and develop the team and manage work relationships to realise team potential and to support the achievement of business objectives.
- Manage workflow allocation for the team to ensure that appropriate priorities are given and that the capability and the capacity of team members is optimised.
- Lead and embed change in the Underwriting team to ensure the transition objectives are met and exceeded.
- Engage with and foster key external relationships to ensure effective engagement with the icare business model.
- Keep abreast and ahead of significant developments in the Scheme underwriting standards and procedures to ensure that potential impacts are anticipated and managed.
Skills & Experience
- An extensive range of experience in the insurance industry with a particular focus on insurance underwriting
- Experience managing people/teams
- Business administration (or related) qualifications or equivalent knowledge and skills acquired through practical experience
- Comprehensive understanding of workers insurance underwriting
