The Support Worker provides person-centred supports to NDIS participants living in a Supported Independent Living (SIL) environment. The role focuses on assisting participants to develop and maintain daily living skills, promote independence, ensure safety, and uphold dignity, choice, and control in accordance with each participant’s support plan and the NDIS Practice Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Participant Support
- Provide active support to participants in a shared living environment
- Assist with daily living tasks including:
◦ Personal care (where required)
◦ Meal preparation and household tasks
◦ Medication assistance (as trained and authorised)
◦ Community participation and skill development
- Support participants to make choices and exercise control over their daily lives
- Promote independence, social inclusion, and wellbeing
- Follow individual support plans, behaviour support plans, and risk assessments
Health, Safety & Wellbeing
- Maintain a safe and supportive living environment
- Identify and respond to risks, incidents, or changes in participant needs
- Follow organisational incident management and reporting procedures
- Support participants during behaviours of concern using approved strategies
- Respond appropriately to emergencies in line with training and procedures
Professional Practice
- Work in accordance with the NDIS Code of Conduct
- Maintain professional boundaries at all times
- Respect participant privacy, confidentiality, and cultural needs
- Communicate effectively with participants, families, guardians, and team members
- Complete required documentation and progress notes accurately and on time
- Participate in handovers, team meetings, supervision, and training
Inherent Requirements of the Role:

- Ability to work directly with people with disability in a shared living environment
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as manual handling (with training)
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
- Ability to work sleepover, active night, weekend, and public holiday shifts (as required)
- Ability to follow policies, procedures, and support plans
- Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully
- Ability to maintain participant safety at all times
- Ability to transport participants for community access, including holding a current Australian driver licence and appropriate insurance
Mandatory Requirements:
The successful applicant must have or be willing to obtain:
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Right to work in Australia
- Current First Aid & CPR
- Manual Handling training
- Infection Control training
- Ability to provide at least two references
- Willingness to complete all required induction and ongoing training
Desirable (But Not Essential)
- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support (Disability) or similar
- Experience working in SIL or shared accommodation
- Experience supporting participants with:
- Complex needs
- Behaviours of concern
- Mental health conditions
- Medication administration training (or willingness to complete)

Employment Conditions

Pay: $35.15 – $63.27 per hour
