About The Position
Location: Port Augusta, with outreach across surrounding communities
Status: Full Time, Part Time is negotiable
Classification and Rate: SCHADS Level 4, $46.70 per hour

Healing for Strong Families is a healing program for Aboriginal families in Port Augusta. The program supports families impacted by family violence, or who have had child protection involved with their family.
The program is run by Uniting Country SA, together with Ngai Nhina Yura. Families lead the way, and there is no wrong door. The program uses yarning, time on Country, cultural activities and one-on-one support, guided by a Social and Emotional Wellbeing approach.
As the Child and Youth Practitioner, you will work with Aboriginal children, young people and their families to provide culturally safe, trauma-aware and family-led support. You will provide case management, practical support, advocacy and warm referrals, helping children and young people strengthen their safety, wellbeing, identity, relationships and connection to culture, Country, family, community and kin.

Skills and Experiences:
You will:
- Use yarning-based engagement to build trust with children, young people and families and support family-led case planning.
- Provide culturally safe case management, practical support, advocacy and warm referrals for Aboriginal children, young people and families.
- Work alongside families, Elders, cultural leaders, Ngai Nhina Yura, schools and other services to support culturally appropriate healing, learning, development and participation.
- Maintain accurate case notes, client records and program information within required timeframes.
- Work with children, young people and families in homes, community settings, schools, outreach locations and during on Country activities.
It is essential for you to have:
- Lived and/or living experience, cultural knowledge and strong connection to Aboriginal community and local support networks.
- Relevant experience working with Aboriginal children, young people, families or community.
- An understanding of child and youth development, family-led decision-making and strengths-based practice.
- Current Australian Driver’s Licence.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
It is desirable for you to have:
- Certificate IV or higher in Community Services, Youth Work, Child, Youth and Family Intervention, Social Work, Counselling, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, Mental Health or a related field.
You will also need to be available for some out of hours or weekend work and travel between Uniting Country SA sites or interstate as required.
