About the role
We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our Finance team at our Melbourne office. Reporting to the Senior Accountant, you will take carriage of the financial and management reporting cycle, statutory and taxation compliance, and the annual budget process, and you will provide the analysis that supports strategic decision-making across the business.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and consolidated management accounts for review by management and the Group Finance team.
- Prepare taxation returns and compliance workpapers, including BAS, income tax, FBT and transfer pricing documentation.
- Prepare year-end statutory accounts and manage the annual external audit, including responding to auditor queries.
- Prepare, analyse and report on annual budgets and forecasts, including variance analysis and commentary on financial performance.
- Examine operating costs, revenues and expenditure, and advise management on trends, margins and cost control opportunities.
- Appraise cash flow, working capital and financial risk, and liaise with financial institutions and external advisers.
- Formulate, maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures and internal control systems.
- Maintain and develop the finance functions of the ERP system, including identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Prepare weekly sales and ad-hoc financial reporting to inform the business on current performance.
- Prepare the financial information required for annual and ad-hoc business insurance renewals.
- Manage relationships with vendors, professional advisers and relevant government departments.
Skills and experience
- Bachelor degree or higher in Accounting, or in Business or Commerce with an accounting major.
- CPA or CA qualification, or substantial progress towards completion.
- A minimum of three years of post-qualification experience in an accounting role, covering financial and management reporting and taxation compliance.
- Sound working knowledge of Australian accounting standards and taxation requirements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, together with experience in accounting and ERP systems. Exposure to SAP Business One and Tagetik is desirable.
- Experience with banking platforms, the ATO portal and payroll systems.
- Meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently and to deadline.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build rapport across the business.
- Prior experience in the hospitality or equipment services industry is desirable, though not essential.
