Our core business is ultra-high mobility, wheeled vehicles and we are the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of a range of vehicles from 450kg to 12T GVM which are currently in service with the Australian and NZ Army. Supacat is a small to medium enterprise (SME) that is experiencing phenomenal growth. Guided by a supportive Management team, we rely on individuals to show initiative and take responsibility and ownership within their role. More than that however, we strive to provide a supportive and engaging culture that puts safety at the forefront of everything we do.
About the Role
We’re looking for a commercially astute Company Accountant to join our Port Melbourne team. This is a career-building role with a clear growth trajectory: you’ll start by embedding yourself in our financial operations and supporting a key business stream, then progressively take on leadership of the full finance function as you demonstrate your capability and confidence.
You will start by owning financials for a key business stream, gaining deep operational insight. As you prove capability, you'll progressively step into broader leadership- ultimately taking ownership of the finance function.
- Clear progression to Finance leads
- High visibility with leadership and UK parent
- Real influence over business decisions, not just reporting
Main duties and responsibilities of the role:
You’ll build a deep understanding of our business by working closely with one business stream before expanding your remit across the organisation. Day to day, you’ll be responsible for:
- Deliver accurate monthly management and project accounting reports.
- Own month-end close and balance sheet integrity.
- Managing inventory accuracy, including periodic and year-end stock counts
- Supporting the annual budget process and contributing to our five-year plan
- Liaising with external advisors including auditors, banks, and tax advisers
- Playing an active role in our IFS ERP implementation, contributing finance expertise to system design and process decisions
- Coaching colleagues across the business to understand the financial impact of their decisions — cost, cash, WIP, stock, and project accounting
- Partner with operational teams to explain performance and improve outcomes.
- Acting as the primary financial interface for internal stakeholders
What We're Looking For
- CA or CPA qualified
- Solid experience in financial reporting, management accounting, and month-end processes
- Exposure to project accounting or cost accounting in a product or project-based business
- ERP experience (IFS experience highly regarded)
- Strong communication skills — you’ll present financial information to non-finance stakeholders
- A proactive, independent mindset with genuine commercial curiosity
You’ll be expected to bring professionalism, independence, and genuine commercial curiosity to everything you do — this is a role for someone who wants to be a real business partner, not just a numbers processor.
Must be able to obtain and maintain Australian Defence Security Clearance and must have the right to work in Australia.
