What you'll be doing
This position is for a 2 year contract and only for trainees who have NOT completed a core year in endocrinology by Feb 2027.
Advanced trainees in Endocrinology provide expert medical care to inpatients and outpatients of the Endocrinology Medicine departments. They practice under the supervision and direction of Specialist Endocrinologists to assess and medically manage a comprehensive range of illnesses and disorders related to hormonal disorders.
Advanced trainees in Endocrinology provide expert medical care to inpatients and outpatients of the Endocrinology Medicine departments. They practice under the supervision and direction of Specialist Endocrinologists to assess and medically manage a comprehensive range of illnesses and disorders related to hormonal disorders.
Advanced trainees participate in outpatient services in a variety of ambulatory care settings including hospital facilities and private consulting rooms. The role includes patient assessment, treatment decision-making, performing procedures, maintaining adequate medical records, and developing expertise in medical practice within a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments.
Close and effective liaison with consultants will allow the doctor to demonstrate their level of ability and understanding of patient care and enable you to expand your areas of responsibility. All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated to the specialist responsible for that care.
The advanced trainee in endocrinology medicine is a key person who works closely with all members of staff and must:
- Have the ability to exercise discretion, sensitivity and maintain confidentiality.
- Be able to work co-operatively as a member and contributor in a complex multi-disciplinary team, including pro-active participation in team meetings and decision-making processes.
- Be able to provide and participate in performance monitoring.
