About the role
W. Short Hospitality is seeking a talented and passionate Cook to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis.. Based at the Royal Hotel Leichhardt NSW 2040, this role is central to delivering exceptional culinary experiences to our guests. As a Cook, you will work alongside our culinary team to prepare high-quality dishes that reflect our commitment to excellence in hospitality. Key responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to established recipes, plating standards and presentation guidelines
- Maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene and sanitation throughout the kitchen
- Ensure all meals are prepared efficiently and delivered to the pass on time, particularly during service periods
- Collaborate with other kitchen staff to coordinate food preparation and maintain workflow
- Monitor stock levels and communicate with management regarding ingredient requirements and par levels
- Assist with the development of new menu items and contribute creative ideas to enhance our offerings
- Maintain a clean, organised workstation and adhere to all health and safety regulations
- Follow portion control procedures and maintain consistency in food quality and presentation
- Support senior kitchen staff and contribute to the training and development of junior team members where applicable
What we're looking for
- Proven experience working as a Cook in a professional kitchen environment
- Strong knowledge of food safety practices and food handling standards
- Excellent knife skills and proficiency with standard kitchen equipment
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail and quality
- Sound understanding of different cooking techniques and cuisines relevant to the hospitality sector
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to work effectively with other kitchen staff
- Flexibility with shift patterns and availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
- A passion for cooking and a commitment to delivering excellent culinary standards
- Relevant qualifications such as a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent experience
- Current food safety certification or willingness to obtain this
