Engineering Internship (3 Months) – Manufacturing / Design

This is a 3-month internship position for candidates currently located in Australia only.
Vacupack is a fast-growing plastics manufacturer whose products are found across many supermarket shelves. Our customers include some of the largest food producers in the world, and they choose to work with companies that are leaders and innovators in their field.
Located in Melbourne’s Bayside / South East suburbs, we have recently expanded into the IML (In-Mould Labelling) food packaging space, building a facility that represents world-class manufacturing standards. Program Scope
Vacupack has proudly hosted a successful internship program over the past three years. As we move forward, we are expanding the scope of the program to provide interns with broader exposure to our operations and engineering processes.
Interns will gain hands-on experience in areas such as:
- Understanding troubleshooting concepts for thermoforming and injection moulding production lines
- Exposure to machine operation fundamentals, tooling and die changes
- Learning about vision systems used in quality control
- Development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including visual and video documentation
- Exposure to LEAN manufacturing, Kaizen, and continuous improvement practices
- Product and tooling redesign projects using SolidWorks, assisting our engineering team with improving existing packaging components and designs
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for motivated and proactive Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or Manufacturing Engineering graduates or final-year students who are interested in building a career in advanced manufacturing.
Candidates should have:
- A strong interest in the plastics forming and manufacturing industry
- Basic to intermediate SolidWorks skills (ability to modify or redesign parts is highly desirable)
- Strong analytical thinking and mechanical aptitude
- Good computer skills
- Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal)
- A reliable, proactive and disciplined work ethic
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Physical capability to work in a production environment (standing and walking throughout the day)
Additional Requirements
- Availability to attend 5 days per week
- Must currently be based in Australia
Internship Support
This internship program provides valuable hands-on industry experience. We offer $250 per week to help cover commuting expenses during the program.
