National Measurement Institute (NMI)

About the Physical Metrology Branch
We provide Australia’s peak measurement standards for physical quantities. This enables measurements made in Australia to be accepted internationally, which is particularly important for trade. Our people share their expertise by providing measurement services – from calibration and testing to technical advice and training. We contribute actively to international measurement forums and enhance our capabilities through research and development in line with national and international requirements.
About the Customer Services Team
The Customer Services Team supports the Physical Metrology Branch by coordinating client engagement and service delivery across a range of technical areas. As a key contact point for external clients, the team works closely with branch staff to manage enquiries, quotations, bookings and service requests efficiently and professionally. The team also supports broader site operations, including procurement, the Lindfield stores function, and manages the receipt and dispatch of calibration goods.
The Stores and Logistics Officer/Supervisor co-ordinates a wide range of NMI operational services, including stores, freight, inventory, site access, and logistics support. The role sits within the Physical Metrology Branch and supports the wider Lindfield laboratory community.
This role offers strong opportunities for professional growth and collaboration across NMI, as well as with the Department’s Property and Security Team and CSIRO staff who remain on site.

Our ideal candidate will have:

Relevant skills and experience in the planning and supervision of a Stores and logistics service including inventory control and stocktake in accordance with established procurement guidelines, policies and procedures.
-
Proven ability to take initiative, plan, coordinate, develop, maintain operational procedures, and prioritise activities, to achieve service outcomes.
-
Proven ability to adapt to changing demands, with limited supervision.
-
Demonstrated organisation skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate with others, to meet tight deadlines.

Advanced communication and liaison skills, in person, and by email, post and phone.
-
Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.

Recognised experience using Microsoft Office programs.

The holding of a current Forklift licence and demonstrated experience in operating Walkie Stackers.
The role of the Stores and Logistics Officer is to coordinate a broad range of operational functions focused on Stores, stock inventory, receiving and dispatch, site access and other logistical support within the National Measurement Institute’s West Lindfield Campus, including tenants.
Duties and key result areas include:

Manage the Stores ‘day to day’ operations, prioritizing the workload as needed and ensuring;
- the efficient, timely and accurate receipt and despatch of all material goods,
-
specialist packaging, such as dangerous goods, temperature sensitive materials, critical timeframes, specialist freight services etc are understood, considered and implemented in consultation with stakeholders.
-
the stores operations are within budget and agreed programme schedule, including the delivery of services in a cost effective and prompt manner.
-
appropriate inventory control, including liaising with stakeholders for future needs.
- Maintain an active involvement in improving the operational effectiveness of the site’s Stores and Logistics.
-
Support the onboarding of new staff and contractors by providing direction and guidance on Stores operations, including Receiving and Despatch procedures
-
Oversee Flammables and Gas Stores facilities in relation to safety and compliance.
-
Adhere to the practice of NMI values, code of conduct and WHS policies.
-
Work collaboratively with colleagues within NMI, as well as the broader site community.

Liaise with the DISR Property team in relation to site operations, including;
- General security,
-
The authorised issuing of keys to staff and tenants, utilising the department’s ProMaster key program.
-
Issuing visitor and contractor access cards using the Gallaher card access system.

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Desirable Criteria

A working knowledge of TechOne Inventory including the procurement process from Requisition/Purchase Order to supplier payment.

Proficiency in the ‘Gallagher’ security card access system data base.

Proficiency in ‘ProMaster’ key program.

Time Management skills including the capacity to prioritise request from various sources.

Experience working with site tenants.
