Cohuna District Hospital is a welcoming, rural health service located in northern Victoria, dedicated to delivering high-quality care with compassion and respect. Established as a public hospital in 1952, it has a rich history of serving the Cohuna community and surrounding areas.
The hospital offers a range of acute services including medical, surgical and obstetric care through its 8-bed facility. In addition to inpatient care, Cohuna District Hospital provides vital community and home-based services such as District Nursing, Social Support Groups and Meals on Wheels, in partnership with Northern District Community Health.

Role description
Cohuna District Hospital is seeking a motivated and reliable Handyperson / Gardener to join our Facilities & Infrastructure team.
This hands-on role is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, operation and presentation of hospital facilities, grounds and infrastructure. Working closely with the Facilities & Infrastructure Team Leader, you will help ensure our buildings, equipment, gardens and outdoor spaces remain safe, functional and welcoming for patients, residents, visitors and staff.
The successful applicant will contribute to preventative maintenance programs, assist with contractor coordination, support capital works projects, undertake grounds and garden maintenance, and play an important role in maintaining compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and routine maintenance across hospital buildings, infrastructure and grounds.

Maintain gardens, lawns and outdoor areas to a high standard.

Respond promptly to maintenance requests and undertake repairs as required.

Assist with stock control and maintenance stores management.

Support the coordination of contractors, suppliers and tradespeople.

Assist with capital works and improvement projects.

Contribute to maintaining compliance with Australian Standards, legislation and healthcare regulations.

Participate in emergency responses and urgent maintenance issues as required.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:

Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.

A commitment to workplace safety and quality outcomes.

Experience operating equipment and machinery relevant to maintenance and groundskeeping duties.

Sound computer skills and the ability to use Microsoft Office and other digital systems.

A current driver's licence.

A trade qualification or relevant maintenance/gardening experience will be highly regarded.

Previous experience in a healthcare environment is desirable but not essential.
