Disability Support Worker – Supporting a Vibrant 12-Year-Old Young Man
We are seeking compassionate, experienced, and reliable Disability Support Workers to join a support team for a wonderful 12-year-old young man.
He is a curious, social, and bubbly individual who enjoys exploring the world around him. He loves spending time outdoors, engaging with his community, and participating in activities that allow him to learn, discover, and connect with others. Building positive relationships and supporting his independence are key aspects of this rewarding role.
The young person is non-verbal and requires support with communication. Successful applicants will be patient, attentive, and committed to understanding his unique communication style, ensuring his voice, choices, and preferences are always respected and promoted.
This is a 2:1 support role, requiring team members who can work collaboratively with colleagues to provide consistent, high-quality support. Strong teamwork, communication, and the ability to follow agreed support strategies are essential.
The role also includes providing personal care and continence support in a respectful, dignified, and person-centred manner. Applicants must be comfortable and experienced in supporting personal care needs while promoting the participant's comfort, wellbeing, and independence wherever possible.
This role requires experience supporting individuals who display behaviours of concern and a strong understanding of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). The successful candidate will be confident implementing behaviour support strategies, maintaining a calm and consistent approach, and working collaboratively with the wider support network to achieve positive outcomes.
His support needs are best met through a structured and predictable routine. When supported in line with his PBS plan and established routines, he thrives and is able to fully engage in his daily activities and community experiences. Consistency, reliability, and a proactive approach are essential.
Essential Requirements:
- Experience supporting children or young people with disability.
- Experience implementing Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies.
- Understanding of behaviours of concern and the ability to respond appropriately and consistently.
- Experience providing personal care and continence support.
- Ability to work effectively within a 2:1 support model.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a person-centred approach.
- Ability to follow support plans, routines, and therapeutic recommendations.
- Relevant disability support qualifications (or willingness to obtain).
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, Working with Children Check, First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain).
Highly Desirable:
- Seizure training with Midazolam administration
- Medication administration training.
- Basic Continence Care Training
