About the Role:
This is a permanent, full-time or part-time role (at 0.8 FTE considered) position within the Banksia department.
Are you an experienced nurse that has had an interest in developing skills to work in adolescent mental health and are you committed to complete a post-graduate study in mental health nursing? Then this transition to speciality to practice, 12-month, supported program is for you.
You will be supported to develop core mental health nursing skills of risk assessment and management, mental state assessment, therapeutic engagement and implementing latest evidence base into clinical practice.
Internally, this position will be known and/or referred to as: Registered Nurse - Transition to Speciality (TSP) program - Mental Health.
Classification for this position will be governed by Award 70 - Mental Health Registered Nursed and will range from NP21 (RPN Grade 2, Year 2) to NP70 (RPN Grade 2, Year 8) FTE base salary $86580.00 to $107,520.4 per annum, pro-rata for part-time, plus Superannuation).

Your skills and experience:

2 yrs experience as a registered nurse

Successful completion of a graduate program

Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)

About the Department:
Banksia Ward is a 16-bed adolescent inpatient mental health unit at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH), providing specialised care for young people aged 13 to 17 years. The ward includes a 2-bed Intensive Care Area (ICA) to support young people requiring a higher level of observation and acute intervention.
Banksia Ward is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals with extensive expertise in child, adolescent, and family mental health. The team works collaboratively to deliver comprehensive, developmentally appropriate care, with a strong emphasis on family involvement and recovery-oriented practice.
The ward supports young people experiencing a wide range of mental health conditions, including affective disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder, difficulties with emotional dysregulation, acute behavioural crises requiring intensive intervention, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, and emerging personality vulnerabilities. Care is tailored to meet the complex and often co-occurring needs of adolescents in an acute setting
