On sitting days, Directors can be required to work until the adjournment of the House which can be outside of regular working hours. Staff are compensated for these additional hours of work under the Crown Employees (Parliament House Conditions of Employment) Award. On non-sitting days regular flex-time arrangement apply.
About the unit and position
This role is within the House and Procedure business unit which is one of three business units in the Department.
The House and Procedure business unit has three core functions: supporting the day-to-day operations of the sittings of the Legislative Assembly; providing advice on parliamentary law, procedure and practice to Members of the Legislative Assembly and other stakeholders; and providing support to Members of the Legislative Assembly, their staff and visitors to Parliament House.
Directors in this unit lead a small team to support the effective operation of the Legislative Assembly, particularly when in session. Directors require (or have the capacity to quickly develop) a strong understanding of parliamentary law, practice and procedure; an ability to manage and develop people; excellent communication skills; tact and discretion; excellent problem-solving skills and the flexibility to work across competing priorities.
