About the role
We're looking for a talented Designer to join The Australian Women's Weekly on a part-time basis.
Working as part of our creative and editorial team, you'll bring stories to life through exceptional design across print and digital platforms. From beautifully crafted magazine layouts to engaging digital assets and social content, you'll help maintain the iconic visual identity of Australia's most trusted media brand while contributing fresh creative ideas and innovative design solutions.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised designer who enjoys working collaboratively, thrives in a fast-paced publishing environment and has a passion for creating premium visual experiences.
What you'll do
- Design engaging editorial layouts, graphics and visual assets across print and digital platforms, ensuring all work reflects The Australian Women's Weekly's trusted and premium brand.
- Translate editorial concepts into compelling visual storytelling that enhances the reader experience across magazine, web, social and other digital channels.
- Collaborate closely with editors, writers, photographers and production teams to deliver creative, high-quality content.
- Prepare artwork for publication across print and digital channels, ensuring accuracy and adherence to production specifications.
- Develop templates, graphics and creative assets that support consistent brand presentation across multiple platforms.
- Manage your own design projects and priorities, balancing multiple deadlines while working within established editorial production workflows.
- Work within publishing systems and project management tools to ensure artwork is delivered accurately and on schedule.
- Take ownership of assigned design projects from concept through to final execution, incorporating stakeholder feedback throughout the process.
- Contribute ideas during editorial planning and creative discussions, helping to evolve visual storytelling across the brand.
- Stay up to date with emerging design trends, tools and best practice to continually enhance creative output.
What we’re looking for
- Demonstrated experience as a designer within publishing, media or a creative agency environment.
- Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, with Canva experience highly regarded.
- Confidence designing across both print and digital platforms, with an understanding of how visual content translates across multiple channels.
- Experience working with publishing systems such as WoodWing or similar editorial workflow platforms.
- Strong typography, layout and visual storytelling skills, with an exceptional eye for detail.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A collaborative approach and confidence working with editorial, production, marketing and commercial stakeholders.
- A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and delivering outstanding creative work.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to balance editorial excellence with audience and business objectives.
- An appreciation for The Australian Women's Weekly's distinctive visual identity and a passion for creating premium content that resonates with Australian audiences.
