About the role
Based at our Newstead, QLD office the Data Engineering Manager leads and manages a team of data engineers in the design, build, support and maintenance of NHVR’s data environments for efficient operational use. As a subject matter expert on NHVR’s technical data platforms and data intensive business processes, assess new and existing data sources on their applicability in NHVR’s data holdings while providing authority insights on trends, risk and issues. Lead and manage best practice data governance processes and standards to protect and manage NHVR’s information assets.
Key responsibilities of this role are:
- Architect, design, implement and manage a highly scalable data platform that supports real-time data processing, advanced analytics, machine learning experimentation, and timely access to actionable business insights.
- Build and optimise automated data solutions and pipelines that transform complex datasets into trusted, business-ready information for analytics, reporting, data exploration, and impactful visualisations.
- Manage the end-to-end data lifecycle, including acquisition, integration, storage, processing, and transformation of large datasets from diverse sources such as APIs, logs, and relational and non-relational databases.
- Drive data governance, quality and traceability practices to ensure data integrity, compliance, and confidence in enterprise-wide decision making.
- Develop data models and pipelines that enable self-service analytics, supporting Power BI, QGIS, and other business intelligence and reporting platforms.
- Partner with business and technical stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into data engineering solutions, aligning technology capabilities with organisational goals and outcomes.

About You
You are an experienced data engineering leader with a passion for building scalable, high-performance data platforms that unlock the value of data. You have a proven track record designing, implementing and managing modern data environments that support real-time processing, advanced analytics, machine learning initiatives and impactful business decision-making.
You thrive on turning complex data challenges into streamlined, automated solutions. With strong expertise in data architecture, integration and pipeline development, you can transform large and diverse datasets into trusted, accessible information that empowers business users, analysts and data scientists alike.
You bring deep knowledge of the end-to-end data lifecycle, from data acquisition and storage through to processing, modelling and delivery. You are equally comfortable working with APIs, logs, and relational and non-relational data sources, ensuring data is reliable, secure and fit for purpose.
A strong advocate for data governance and quality, you champion best-practice frameworks that enhance data integrity, traceability and organisational confidence in data-driven decisions.
You have experience developing data models and self-service analytics solutions that support business intelligence and reporting platforms, enabling users to access the insights they need when they need them.
Above all, you are a collaborative leader who can engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating strategic business objectives into practical data engineering solutions that deliver measurable outcomes.
To be successful in this role you will possess
- Minimum 7 years of experience with proven skills in data engineering, data analysis, data collection systems and statistical techniques in a complex business environment.
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in Microsoft Azure SQL, Azure Data Bricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Delta Lake, PowerBI, Apache Spark, Python or R
- Strong stakeholder management, planning, organisation, decision making and time management skills.
- Experience in real time data processing environments.
- Experience in deliver in leading change management activities in a business experiencing significant business change.
